Tirupati is among the few Indian cities which has a well
preserved cultural heritage. Very much like the Nawabs of
Lucknow and of Awadh ( U.P.), Tirupati invokes nostalgia among
old residents for its culture, fine arts and a certain
sophistication in manners.
By Air :
The nearest airport is Madras.
By Rail : Direct rail connections to Hyderabad,
Vijayawada, Madras, Tiruchirapalli, Puri and Delhi.
By Road : Tirupati is very near to Chennai,
which is 3 hours travel and 6 hours from Bangalore. There is a
bus facility every 30 minutes or so from Bangalore.
SIGHTSEEING
TIRUPATI TEMPLE
The town of Tirupati came into existence only about the middle of the
twelfth century, with the foundation of the Govindarajaswami temple.
Before this time there was a small village, named Kottur, to the
north-east of Kapilatirtham, situated about two miles to the north of
the modern town.
THE
GOVINDARAJASWANI TEMPLE
This temple is the main attraction for the pilgrims at Tirupati and the
biggest temple in town.
