NAHARGARH FORT

The
magnificent fort of Nahargarh lies on a hill overlooking the city of
Jaipur. Built in 1734 by the founder of Jaipur Sawai jai Singh to defend
his new city, this was also a retreat for his maharanis. Additions were
made to the original structure by Sawai Ram Singh in 1868 and later by
maharaja Madho Singh when elaborate upper storey, the most elaborately
painted rooms were constructed. More halls and courtyards were also
added. Stained glass windows, excellently carved doors and the most
amazing paintings make this hill-fort strikingly attractive among other
pleasure palaces of its kind. The fort extends to the tip of the hill
from where one can see the entire city bathed in the fresh early morning
sunlight or the spectacular sunset of the evenings.
